TERMITES MANAGEMENT

Management of Pest – Termites

Termites are the dreaded infestation that can ruin entire houses. As one of the most common household pests, termite control is best handled by professionals who know exactly how to remove and eradicate all termite activity.Adamz pest management is experienced in termite removal, and has extensive knowledge in the best practices for effective and successful termite control.

Decisions are made based on the pest species, extent of infestation, areas to be treated, your concerns about the environment and of course, your budget.

Termite Management Technique includes:

Termite Baiting

Termite baiting systems capitalise on the natural behaviour of termites. As social insects, termites share their food in a process known as trophallaxis. This trait allows slow acting toxicants to be transferred through the colony. It is important that the action of the toxicant is slow enough to allow the termites to feed, travel back to their nest, and share before taking effect.

The key to this concept is the use of a system that attracts termites to a readily accessible feeding station containing a suitable bait matrix, that is then carried back to the nest. In time, the slow acting toxicant will have reduced the numbers to a level that can no longer maintain the colony, which ultimately falls "sick" and dies.

Conventional termiticide treatments often involve the drilling and pumping of large volumes of chemical into the soil with a variety of associated side effects including disturbance and even property damage. In comparison, termite baiting is an environmentally friendly way of treating termite infestations, using very small amounts of a pest-specific chemical in a non-disruptive low hazard application. Baits are ideal for all situations, even those sensitive to insecticide use.

Soil Treatment

Soil Treatment manages the termite colony by contaminating foraging termites with ultra-low doses of active ingredient. As mortality of these termites is delayed, they are able to pass on the active ingredient to other members of the termite colony before they die. It also protects structures by killing termites that wander into treated soil. They will die before they can damage the structure.

Corrective Treatment

Post-construction (existing building)

This involved drilling into the slab of building at a depth of 18 inches and at an interval of 18 inches around the walls of the building. Chemical mixtures of not less than 5 liters are pumped into the soil via a power sprayer. A treated zone is created called Lateral Soil Movement. Termites cannot detect the treated zone as the chemical is non-repelling, odorless and colorless. Termites entering the treated zone will become disoriented losing the ability to groom and stop feeding slowly leading to their demise. There is no need for the termite to eat any bait as on contact with a small dosage of the chemical will cause them to be disorientated leading to their total elimination. Soil underneath the building should be treated to allow a continuous treated zone.
